Twin Valley Middle School Mission Statement

"We believe that Middle Grade Students should be involved in a challenging curriculum with connections to real life. These experiences should stimulate curiosity and the desire to explore, teach responsibility, and help students make sense of the world around them."

About

In the spring of 2004, the towns of Wilmington and Whitingham made a historic agreement: to merge their middle and high schools. Fall 2004 heralded the birth of Twin Valley Middle School with students from West Dover, Wilmington, Searsburg, Jacksonville, and Whitingham. The same building is also the home of Whitingham Elementary School.

The taxpayers recently (march 2012) approved a major construction, consolidation and renovation project for the Whitingham and Wilmington schools. Four schools and three buildings will combine to create the new Twin Valley School District. The Whitingham building will be updated to a grade 6-12 middle/HS and the Deerfield Valley Elementary building will be renovated to be a pre-k to 5th grade building.

TVMS serves approximately 120 sixth, seventh, and eighth grade students from the communities mentioned above. n addition to the core content areas (social studies, language arts, math, science), middle school students enjoy an advisory period and full complement of specials: art, music, physical education, family and consumer science, and technology. Middle school students have the opportunity to study French, Spanish, and Chinese. We also offer Virtual High School courses as an enrichment opportunity for middle school students.

We provide a wide variety of extracurricular activities for our middle school students. Sports offerings include soccer, basketball, softball, baseball, track & field and golf. A winter activities program begins in January with skiing, skating, bowling, snowboarding and other activities for students to select. We are also proud to offer the WINGS after school program. WINGS participants work with community members, parents, and teachers in a wide variety of programs ranging from academic support to creative enrichment.

TVMS employs a nurse, Robin Patch, who deals with the day to day health needs of our students. Additionally, she facilitates dental programs, health workshops and wellness activities. Our guidance counselor Suzanne Mears, PE teacher Chris Brown, and substance abuse counselor Kristen Trudeau work in tandem with students, parents, and teachers to provide students with personal wellness programs that will hopefully lead to successful, positive lifestyles.

The school office is open from 7:00 am until 4:00 pm, with voicemail available after hours. Sandy Crowningshield serves as our Administrative Assistant and can be contacted at (802) 368-2880. Samantha Ambrose is the WINGS Afterschool Program Coordinator.
